On ‘Disabling Voicemail’ on the iPhone
If Steve Jobs says the iPhone comes with Visual Voicemail, the iPhone really comes with Visual Voicemail. However, if I had investigated a bit more, I would have known that even though the iPhone GUI doesn’t let you disable voicemail, you can do this using industry standard GSM codes.

Apple vs. Google: How Will They Stack Up in the Future?
Apple is worth more than Google. Huh? This doesn’t make sense to me. They’re both strong technology giants with very large “moats.” But Google is stronger, and its moat is bigger.

iPhone 3G Issues: The Plot Thickens
After months and months of anticipation, the iPhone 3G is here — and all anyone can talk about are its problems. Theories are emerging as to who — or what — is really to blame, but in some ways the possible explanations are only adding to the mystery.

3 feet: Turns out the iPhone isn’t indestructable
My brand new iPhone slipped! — from about three feet, and it hit the sidewalk. Apple’s design gurus had miscalculated — one fall and the screen shattered across the top corner. The only way to replace a cracked iPhone screen is to buy a whole new phone.

Apple worth more than Google, but so what?
There was plenty of virtual fist bumping among Apple fans yesterday about the perceived value of Apple as a company now being more than Google, and that’s great. And meaningless. One need only look back to late last year and the words of one four-figure analyst to see how ephemeral that measure of value can be.

Apple was briefly worth more than Google
We’re not sure why, but Tom Petruno on the Money & Co. blog points out that, on Wednesday, Apple’s market valuation surpassed Google’s for the first time since the search giant went public in August 2004. But both companies’ stocks are still getting their butts kicked by Microsoft’s

What’s Wrong With the 3-G in iPhone 3G?
There’s something in the air in the Apple community, and this time it’s not the same old buzz about a next-gen iPod, Steve Jobs’s health or a Mac tablet: It’s the sour topic of the iPhone 3G’s poor data reception.

Analyst Predicts September iPod ‘Surprise’
Today the analyst in question is the venerable Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray, and he is predicting a September refresh of the iPod lineup. From where did he pull this information? Why Apple Doesn’t Do “Concept Products”
Technology giants like Microsoft and Nokia have also had a penchant for concocting concept products that never see the light of day in the market. Why hasn’t Apple, the most innovative and visionary company in computing, produced a single concept product or vision in over a decade? Because, to paraphrase Jobs, ‘real artists ship’.

Apple Made the iPhone Less Stable Than Windows Mobile
I know that we have been clamoring for 3rd party applications on the iPhone and there are some awesome applications available. However, the stable days of pre-iPhone 2.0 may be gone forever and Jobs may not like the can of worms that he has opened up. It is particularly a shame when the native applications on the device can’t even perform reliably.

Steve Jobs, presumably speaking from a hyperbaric chamber where he’s being nourished with an infusion of liquified developer-souls before his next public appearance, had a few interesting tidbits about the AppStore for the Wall Street Journal this morning. Namely, users have downloaded some 60 million programs for the iPhone representing sales of

The $1000 iPhone App: Why Apple Shouldn’t Have Removed it
Yesterday developer Armin Heinrich posted an iPhone app to the App Store called I Am Rich. The program displays a red gem, has no function but to display your wealth to others through ownership, and costs $1000. I Am Rich isn’t the most clever piece of art, but it’s not bad either. For some, the iPhone is already an obvious display of wealth.

Apple’s secret to selling iPhones: Windows Mobile
After a rocky iPhone 3G launch, Apple’s store operations have returned to a model of efficiency. One of Steve Jobs’s secrets: roving sales clerks who use mobile devices to ring up orders anywhere in the store, not just at the cash register. Ah, but which devices? Motorola MC75 handhelds running Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system.
