Speck announces release of 9 iPod nano cases

Wednesday, September 14th, 2005

Today, Speck announced the release of 9 new iPod cases that are specially made to fit the new iPod nano. These new iPod nano cases are expected to be available in October.

Says Tim Hickman, general manager of Speck:

“We are confident that we will be first to market with the largest collection of iPod nano cases available. Rather than reacting to Apple’s new product news last week, we finalized our designs and went into preproduction three weeks ago. As a result, we have a generous head start, with nine unique products in production, and the capacity to produce up to 50,000 units per week of selected top sellers.”

The ROKR Strategy

Wednesday, September 14th, 2005

CoolTechZone explains Apple’s strategy with the Motorola ROKR iTunes phone:

There was nothing wrong with the creative cells of the designers at Apple; ROKR is simply Jobs taking a calculated risk. He doesn’t want a cell phone that doubles as an MP3 player to become too popular as that would cut straight into Apple’s bread and butter product, the iPod.

Best Buy hiding iPod nanos; trying to get rid of leftover minis instead

Tuesday, September 13th, 2005

According to iPod Garage, Best Buy is keeping their iPod nanos hidden, hoping to sell off what’s left of their iPod minis.

I walked to the iPod section at Best Buy. I didn’t see them. Crap, my dad then walks over and looks at this box at the top of all the stands and asks me what it was. iPod nano!!! I just jump in a little geek excitement. I felt like a big nerd right then. I then ask the lady “if they have any left”. She is like there are plenty left. I tell her to hold a black, 4gb iPod nano for me. She says sure. I walk outside, I can’t get a cellphone signal in there. I call and have them cancel that part of my order. Apple does so. I go back inside and purchase it. Being myself I ask how many iPod minis they have sold today. She says about ten. I ask about nanos. She says only like three. I ask her why don’t they tell customers about the nano. I then answer my own question saying you want to get rid of them. Then just putting a little guilt on her I say wouldn’t you hate it if you just bought this new car that you really like and is really cool with all these features and then you find out a couple days later that they had the newer model in with all these great new features and you can’t do anything about it. She gives me this ah, don’t do that to me look and I stop. I have my iPod and I am out.
